Course Description

This interactive webinar provides a thorough exploration of LGBT terms and identities, offering participants a deeper understanding of the diverse and evolving landscape within the LGBT community. Delving into the intricacies of language and identity, this course aims to foster inclusivity and awareness.


Participants will gain insights into the meaning and significance of LGBT acronyms, including Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender, as well as an exploration of terms like Queer and Asexual. 


The course goes beyond terminology, addressing crucial topics such as gender identity and expression. Participants will gain an understanding of transgender and non-binary identities, fostering a respectful and informed perspective.


The course concludes with a focus on allyship and creating inclusive environments. Practical tips on using inclusive language and avoiding offensive terms will be provided, emphasizing the role of each participant in fostering a supportive community.


By the end of this webinar, participants will be equipped with the knowledge and tools to engage in respectful dialogue, contribute to a more inclusive society, and be allies to the diverse members of the LGBT community. 


This is a beginner’s level course and there are no specific prerequisites for this course. The course is open to mental health professionals, students, and individuals interested in gaining knowledge on how to support those interested in LGBT terms and identities.

Lead Trainer Alexis Frederick-Bouy, MA

Alexis Frederick-Bouy, is a Sexologist and Mental health Therapist. Alexis’ educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Sociology from Bloomsburg University, a Master of Arts in Community Psychology and Social Change from Pennsylvania State University, and a Master of Education in Human Sexuality Studies from Widener University. She served the mental health community for over ten years focusing on family dynamics emphasizing attachment, communication, emotional regulation, executive functioning, and resource building. Alexis' passion is to educate and empower individuals to live a fulfilling life by challenging survival thinking and living patterns and replacing them with thriving patterns. Alexis is a wife and mother of two. Alexis is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated.
