Course Description

The course “ Cultural Intelligence and Ethical Practice in therapy” explores the fundamental principles and ethical considerations that govern mental health professionals. This course provides participants with a comprehensive understanding of the ethical frameworks that guide mental health professionals in their mission to support and empower individuals, families, and communities. This course will use several learning methods to support participants with exploring the complexities of ethical decision-making addressing cultural intelligence. 


This course emphasizes the importance of incorporating  cultural intelligence into ethical decision making. This course will empower participants to become both ethical and empathic mental health professionals who utilize cultural intelligence while practicing therapy. 

This is a beginner’s level course and there are no specific prerequisites for this course. The course is open to mental health professionals, students, and individuals interested in gaining knowledge and skills related to cultural intelligence and ethical decision-making.

1. Define and explain the concepts of Ethics and cultural intelligence 

2. Describe the core ethical principles, including autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence, and justice and explain how they apply in diverse cultural contexts.

3. Comprehensive understanding and identify common issues that may arise when working with individuals from different cultural backgrounds and propose strategies for resolution. 

4.  Demonstrate a willingness to challenge personal biases and preconceptions that may affect ethical decision-making. 

5. Advocate for cultural intelligence and ethical behavior within one’s organization or profession.

Executive Director Sharea Farmer, LCSW

Sharea Farmer is the Founder and Executive Director of RS Counseling & Wellness with over 20 years of experience as a licensed clinical social worker. Her expertise in both clinical and administration has allowed her to work in the private and public sectors as an advocate for employee wellness, Diversity & Inclusion, Race Equity, and Trauma-Informed Practices. Her unique practice that focuses on empowerment and education creates transformative wellness for her clients that range from executive leadership teams to supervisors to staff. RS Wellness has developed employee resilience plans and trauma-informed care programs for state and public health agencies, as well as educational groups, both locally and nationally. Sharea received a BA in Sociology from Rider University and a Master’s of Social Work from Rutgers. She is an adjunct professor at Rutgers where she’s been teaching since 2014. She is on the World Childhood Foundation Advisory Board for a two-year term from 2021-2023. On the board, she’ll have the chance to use the Equity & Inclusion lens to determine program eligibility for funding in the area of preventing sexual exploitation and abuse of children. Sharea lives in New Jersey with her husband. She enjoys all things basketball, live NBA games, traveling, coloring, and spending time with family and friends. Lead Trainers Alexis Frederick-Bouy, MA MEd & Adreeonah Mundy, LPC

Alexis Frederick-Bouy, is a Sexologist and Mental health Therapist. Alexis’ educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Sociology from Bloomsburg University, a Master of Arts in Community Psychology and Social Change from Pennsylvania State University, and a Master of Education in Human Sexuality Studies from Widener University. She served the mental health community for over ten years focusing on family dynamics emphasizing attachment, communication, emotional regulation, executive functioning, and resource building. Alexis' passion is to educate and empower individuals to live a fulfilling life by challenging survival thinking and living patterns and replacing them with thriving patterns. Alexis is a wife and mother of two. Alexis is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated. ************************************************************* Adreeonah Mundy is a licensed professional counselor and the owner of Being Made Well Counseling LLC, a private practice dedicated to empowering women through faith-based and clinical counseling. With licenses in both Pennsylvania and Georgia, Adreeonah specializes in helping women navigate relationship issues, imposter syndrome, work-life balance, spirituality, and challenges unique to creatives. Her approach seamlessly integrates psychological expertise with spiritual wisdom, offering holistic support to her clients. As a speaker, Adreeonah frequently participates in panels focused on mental health and spirituality, sharing her insights to uplift and inspire women. She is also a writer and mentor, committed to guiding others on their journeys toward emotional and spiritual well-being. Through her practice and public engagements, Adreeonah continues to make a profound impact on the lives of women seeking healing and growth.
